Kaup– Burglars used a key hidden inside a meter box to unlock the main door of a house and escape with gold ornaments worth nearly ₹3.90 lakh. The incident took place on December 4 at Ramanath Kripa in Mallaru village, Kaup.

According to the police, the homeowner, Raghavendra Kini, who works as a housekeeper at Paduru ISPRL, left for duty on Monday morning. His wife had also stepped out to attend their children’s school annual day programme.

When the couple returned around 1:10 p.m., they found the house broken into. The intruders had forced open a bedroom cupboard and stolen various gold ornaments, including:

A 28-gram Kashitala necklace with diamonds, 8-gram gold chain with diamonds, A 10-gram gold chain, 8-gram earrings, Three gold rings, An 8-gram jumuki and bendole, Coorg-style chain made with red thread and gold beads

In total, around 72 grams of gold jewellery and silver items worth ₹1,500 were taken.

Kaup police have registered a case and begun further investigation.
